Olympic Handball Ireland is celebrating an extraordinary milestone as participation in the sport has soared by 117% over the past two years. This surge reflects the organization’s commitment to promoting handball at every level, from schools to adult leagues and beach handball.
The growth has been evident across all areas of the sport:
Primary Schools: The number of teams has more than doubled, growing from 150 in 2022 to an impressive 327 in 2024. This expansion highlights the sport’s increasing popularity among young athletes.
Secondary Schools: 46 teams now compete in our newly introduced secondary schools competition.
Beach Handball: Beach handball has seen a 25% boost in participation, underscoring the sport’s growing appeal.
These remarkable achievements reflect Olympic Handball Ireland’s strategic efforts to foster a vibrant handball community through innovative programs, partnerships, and investment in grassroots development. By building a strong foundation across age groups, the organization is ensuring the long-term sustainability and success of the sport in Ireland.
